For students in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC), Global Scholars offers a distinctive way to begin your academic journey—one that aligns closely with the BIC’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, discussion, and engagement with global perspectives.
Rather than stepping away from the BIC, students who participate in Global Scholars begin living out its core ideas in a new cultural and academic context.
Stay on Track in the BIC
Global Scholars is designed so that BIC students can make meaningful academic progress while studying abroad. See more about academics here.
Students in the program typically earn credit for 3 BIC courses (7 credit hours) during their first semester in Liverpool.
This allows you to begin your Baylor experience abroad without falling behind in your BIC curriculum.
BIC students have participated in Global Scholars each year since the program began in 2022.
A Natural Extension of the BIC Experience
The BIC is built around an integrated curriculum that brings together disciplines such as history, philosophy, literature, science, and theology to explore the questions that shape our world.
Global Scholars extends this approach beyond the classroom:
- Engage cultural, historical, and political ideas in their real-world context
- Encounter new perspectives that deepen classroom discussions
- Continue developing critical thinking through lived experience
Students return to Baylor with new insights that enrich their continued work in the BIC curriculum.
How Coursework Aligns
Global Scholars coursework is intentionally designed to fulfill key BIC requirements while maintaining an interdisciplinary approach.
During the semester abroad, BIC students complete the following coursework:
Required Courses
- PSC 4324: Special Topics in British Politics and Policy (3 credits) – Liverpool Hope Faculty
- HIS 1300: The United States in Global Perspective (3 credits) – Baylor Graduate Instructor
- GBL 1102: Intercultural Competence Abroad (1 credit) – Baylor Faculty Director
- CHA 1088: Chapel (0 credits) – Baylor requirement - Baylor Graduate Instructor
BIC Course Equivalencies
- PSC 4324 counts as BIC 4374: World Cultures V: Differing Visions & Realities (3 credits)
- HIS 1300 counts as BIC 2344 – World Cultures IV: The United States and the World (3 credits)
- BIC 112 – Examined Life ( 1 credit) - Taught by Faculty Director - No course equivalency course taught exclusively for BIC students in this program.
Additional Elective Courses
In addition to these required courses, students typically select 1-2 additional elective courses offered at Liverpool Hope University.
These courses allow students to explore additional academic interests while continuing to make progress toward their overall degree requirements.
This structure allows BIC students to complete core curriculum requirements while also maintaining flexibility in their academic schedule.
A Cohort Experience—At Baylor and Abroad
Like the BIC, Global Scholars is built around a cohort model.
Students begin their Baylor experience together in Liverpool, forming a close-knit academic and social community that continues when they return to campus in the spring.
This shared experience mirrors the BIC’s emphasis on learning within a community of peers engaged in meaningful discussion and inquiry.
