Exchange Program Overview

Each semester Baylor University welcomes students from our many exchange partner institutions around the world.  We have students here for 1 semester to a year or more.

Cost of Attendance

The costs for attending Baylor University as an Exchange Student vary depending on the signed agreement with the partner institution.  Based on the exchange agreements between Baylor University and its partner institutions, students will not have to pay for tuition or academic fees at Baylor.  They will pay their regular tuition and fees to their home university.

Estimated living expenses are calculated based on cost of living in the Waco area and the institutional agreements.

If the agreement between a student’s home institution and Baylor University includes room and board. It will be subtracted from the amount.

Students with questions about what is included in their institution’s exchange agreement should contact the Study Abroad Office at their home institution.

Accommodations

On-Campus Housing

Students who want to live on-campus must complete both the housing application and the on-campus occupancy license. Information on completing these items will only be provided once a student has been nominated by their home institution.

If the student’s home institution has an agreement with Baylor that includes a housing exchange allowance, the maximum amount Baylor provides for housing is $5,000.  If a student chooses to live in any accommodation that exceeds the $5,000 limit, the student is responsible for paying the remaining balance. Current housing costs can be found HERE:

 **Additional On-Campus Information: Please note, once a student signs Baylor's occupancy license, the student is contractually obligated to live in an on-campus residence hall. If a student wants to pursue an off-campus living arrangement, they should NOT sign the occupancy license and they should notify the Exchange Program and Study Abroad Advisor as soon as possible.

 Off-Campus Housing

Students who want to pursue an off-campus living arrangement should NOT sign a Baylor Occupancy License.  They must notify the Student Exchange and Study Abroad Advisor of their intent to live off-campus as soon as possible.  For information regarding off-campus living, please click HERE

Meals

On-Campus Meal Plans

For exchange students from schools with meal plans included in the exchange, a meal plan will be automatically assigned to them and they do not need to register for a meal plan. Talk to the Study Abroad Advisor at your home institution to find out if a meal plan is included.

All other exchange students can choose from one of Baylor's meal plans and the cost will be charged directly to their student account. For information on the different dining options go HERE:

 Other On-Campus Restaurants

There are a number of restaurants and other dining options across Baylor’s campus, including Starbucks, Moe’s, Panda Express, Chick Fil A, and even a small sushi bar. On-campus restaurant information can be found HERE:

Health Requirements

Health Insurance

International students are required to have health insurance. Incoming Exchange Students will automatically be enrolled in a Baylor health insurance plan. Information regarding insurance at Baylor University can be found HERE:

Vaccinations

ALL incoming students must have document of the following vaccinations:

  • A Tetanus-Diphtheria within the past ten years;
  • TWO MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations, both doses have to have been administered after your 1st birthday;
  • A Meningococcal Meningitis (BMV) vaccination within the past 10 years.  Click  Here for information about the approved vaccines for the BMV.   Students over the age of 22 are exempt (this is a state law for all students);
  • A Tuberculosis test. If students do not pass the skin test, they MUST have a chest x-ray conducted;

All of the above must be documented. Students can either have a health professional sign the Health Form (every page), or they can attach a legible copy of their official immunization records to the Health Form.

It is absolutely vital to participation as an exchange student at Baylor University that students complete all of the required Health Form components. Baylor will not be able to register students for classes, nor will students be able to move-in to on-campus residence halls, until they have submitted proof of the BMV vaccination, and that proof has been officially documented as received by Baylor.
