SEVIS Registration for Fall and Spring Semesters
Each fall and spring term, Baylor ISSS staff is required to register international students in the U.S. Government's SEVIS database within 30 days of either the Program Start Date for initial students or within 30 days of the first day of class for continuing students. It is the student's responsibility to complete all requirements to be SEVIS Registered. Students who have not completed the requirements by this deadline may have their I-20s cancelled or terminated.
Students in Initial Status Requirements
- The student must check in with the Center for Global Engagement to indicate that he or she has arrived to campus.
- The student must be enrolled full-time based on the Baylor's definition of full-time status as determined by the Registrar's Office or must have an approved reduced course load (RCL) request from Baylor University ISSS by the last day to add/register for classes.
- The student must have a valid and current U.S. local address in BearWeb.
- The student must complete the online Arrival Registration
Students in Continued Attendance Status Requirements
- The student must be enrolled full-time based on the Baylor's definition of full-time status as determined by the Registrar's Office or must have an approved reduced course load (RCL) request from Baylor University ISSS by the last day to add/register for classes.
- The student must have a valid and current U.S. local address in BearWeb.
Consequences for Not Enrolling Full-Time
If a student is not enrolled full-time, the student’s SEVIS record (I-20 or DS-2019) may be cancelled or terminated. If students are not fully enrolled or do not have an approved RCL by the last day to add/register for courses for that term, students will have 10 days to take one of the following steps:
- Add courses that will get the student to full time status; OR
- Request a Reduced Course Load (RCL) from Baylor ISSS; OR
- Request a transfer to another institution for the current semester (contact ISSS to help with this) or enroll concurrently with another approved institution
If a student’s SEVIS record is terminated or cancelled by Baylor ISSS, the student is advised to leave the country or he or she may be in violation of their F-1 or J-1 status.
