Courses and Curriculum
Global Scholars students take a full course load during their semester in Liverpool, combining Baylor-taught courses with classes at Liverpool Hope University.
Students typically enroll in 14–18 credit hours, allowing them to stay on track for graduation while gaining a global perspective.
Where You’ll Study
Your fall semester abroad will take place at Liverpool Hope University, a respected institution with more than 175 years of academic tradition.
Liverpool Hope is recognized for excellence in teaching, learning, and student success, and is among the top 20% of UK universities awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
Who Will Be Teaching You
Courses are taught by a combination of Baylor faculty and Liverpool Hope University professors:
- Baylor Faculty Director – teaches 2 courses
- Baylor Ph.D. Graduate Instructor – teaches 1 course and leads Chapel
- Liverpool Hope Faculty – teach courses with Baylor equivalents
Required Courses
All Global Scholars students enroll in the following required courses:
- PSC 4324: Special Topics in British Politics and Policy (3 credits)
- *HIS 1300: The United States in Global Perspective (3 credits)
- *REL 1350: The Christian Heritage (3 credits)
- GBL 1102: Intercultural Competence Abroad (1 credit)
- CHA 1088: Chapel (0 credits)
Chapel is a university requirement for all Baylor students (two semesters total).
If you already have credit for one of these courses, please contact the Program Director to discuss alternate options.
*These classes can be waived if not in the degree plan.
Elective Courses (Choose 2–3)
In addition to required coursework, students select 2–3 elective courses taught by Liverpool Hope faculty. These courses carry Baylor equivalents and allow you to explore additional academic interests.

- SOC 1305 – Introduction to Sociology
- THEA 1306 – Introduction to Theatre

Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) Students
Global Scholars is designed to support students in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC), allowing you to begin your Baylor experience abroad while staying on track academically.
BIC students in Global Scholars typically earn credit for 3 BIC courses (7 credit hours) during their first semester in Liverpool.
These courses are carefully selected to align with key BIC requirements, including world cultures coursework and interdisciplinary seminar experiences.
This means you can participate in Global Scholars without falling behind in your BIC curriculum.
