Freshman Year: Launch Your Global Adventure
Your Global Scholars experience kicks off in an extraordinary way — by starting your Baylor journey abroad! You’ll spend your first semester immersed in experiential learning, service opportunities, and global community building. Along the way, you'll begin laying the foundation for your four-year journey as a Global Scholar.
Courses are taught by a blend of local university professors and your Baylor Faculty Director, offering both academic depth and cultural insight. You’ll also be introduced to the Certificate in Global Engagement — a key component of your Global Scholars experience.
In the spring, you'll return to Baylor’s Waco campus to take Learning for the World, a cohort-based class led by your Global Scholars Program Director. You'll be encouraged to live in the Baylor & Beyond Living-Learning Center, where a vibrant community of globally minded students fosters learning, leadership, and cultural understanding.
Sophomore Year: Build Connections and Expand Perspectives
As a sophomore, you’ll have the opportunity to continue living in the Baylor & Beyond Living-Learning Center to further cultivate your global mindset.
Upon completing Learning for the World, you’ll be invited to join the Engage Fellows Program, which pairs you with a dedicated faculty or staff mentor. You’ll take at least one course (during sophomore or junior year) that deepens your global knowledge and cultural competencies — a requirement toward earning your Certificate in Global Engagement.
You'll also be encouraged to give back by serving as a peer mentor for the next cohort of Global Scholars.
Junior Year: Deepen Your Global Impact
In your junior year, you’ll participate in a monthly seminar series and continue receiving guidance through faculty mentoring. These opportunities will help you integrate scholarship, citizenship, and leadership — all while fostering a strong community among your fellow Global Scholars.
Your global journey continues with another international experience tailored to your interests and goals. Whether through an internship, community engagement project, mission trip, research activity, or study abroad, you’ll gain valuable real-world experience that complements your academic pursuits. This travel can take place in the fall, spring, or summer.
Additionally, you'll collaborate with your faculty mentor to identify a research topic aligned with one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — a signature component of the Global Scholars experience.
Senior Year: Celebrate and Launch Your Future
As a senior, you'll benefit from exclusive networking opportunities with global professionals and be invited to apply for Provost Scholars — the highest honor within the Engage Fellows Program.
At graduation, you and your cohort will be formally recognized as Baylor Global Scholars and Engage Fellows. You'll receive special graduation cords and a signed Certificate in Global Engagement to celebrate your accomplishments and commitment to global citizenship.
And from there? You’ll be equipped to continue growing as both an individual and a global leader, ready to make an impact wherever your journey takes you.
