Global Certificate FAQs
All undergraduate Baylor students are encouraged to participate. The only requirement is a genuine interest in Global affairs.
- You can apply any time within your four-year undergraduate study at Baylor. You are encouraged to enroll early so that it is easier to make note of and track your global participation. The benefits of applying earlier are that you will have a longer period to complete the requirements and access to the advising and enrichment opportunities that accompany the program.
- No. Although you should be able to broadly identify the type of experiences you want to undertake as part of the Certificate and justify why they are a good fit for your overall pathway through the program.
- Intercultural awareness and/or cultural enrichment
- Insight into various regional and international political institutions and systems and their impact on governance and diplomacy.
- Deepened knowledge in focused topic areas, such as international affairs, foreign policy, human rights, and geopolitics.
- A signed certificate from the President
- A line on your transcript reflecting your global engagement certificate
- Cords to wear at graduation
- The time to complete varies, depending on when you start the program. Most students can complete the requirements within 2 years or 4 semesters. You have until the time you graduate from Baylor to complete the Certificate requirements.
- You can request certificate advising to discuss whether the learning experience you would like to pursue meets the criteria for the Certificate.
- Yes. Experiences may predate your enrollment into the program. However, they cannot pre-date your time in college. All your experiences (Book Club, Service Learning, or International Clubs and Orgs) must be submitted in Connect and must meet Global Engagement Certificate requirements.
- Please look at our course catalog which compares details on each of our current course offerings. Our team updates this list weekly. The hope is that there is a comprehensive list of option from all schools and colleges and that students should be able to find class options that fit within their degree plan.
- Yes. Global Engagement courses already taken will count toward completion of the Certificate.
- If you have already been accepted into the Certificate, contact the certificate director to discuss the appropriateness of the course. Be prepared to give a rationale for why you believe this course should count towards fulfilling the requirements of the Certificate. Please talk with your professor about submitting it for approval. Our office is happy to send course proposal form to the faculty teaching the course. Once this is approved it will/can count towards the Certificate.
- Yes, it can. However, it depends on the course and/or learning experience and will be evaluated by the Certificate director/advisor.
- This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The student will have to reach out to the certificate director/advisor to discuss the specific needs and if it meets the certificate requirements.
As a member of the certificate in global engagement program you will become part of a community of Baylor students dedicated to learning about global affairs and we will add you to the Global Baylor Newsletter sent every Monday. This is a great resource full of events for certificate students to use toward their certificate status. You will also receive advising if needed as well as assistance with participating in an international experience abroad.
