My name is Shelby Barnes, and I had the privilege of studying abroad in Germany during summer 2023! I am a biochemistry major with a German secondary major, so this trip helped develop my German language skills better than any classroom ever could. My biggest takeaway from studying abroad is to do your best to fully immerse yourself during your time abroad- it may not always be easy, but I can guarantee that it will build your confidence and ultimately change you for the better.

My name is Maggie Cielesz, and I am a junior political science and philosophy double major with a history minor. I am originally from Rockford, IL. I studied abroad at St. Andrews University in St. Andrews, Scotland in the fall of 2023. I studied abroad because I have always thought it is important to push yourself outside your regular sphere of comfort and experience new places and ways of life. Traveling proved to be one of the greatest ways to enhance real-world perspective on life. My biggest takeaway from studying abroad was a greater sense of self. Since I was taken out of my normal life and routine, I was pushed to investigate who I was at my core outside of my environment. I could not be more grateful for such an experience that provoked such special introspective understanding. I am definitely a huge advocate of studying abroad!

Hello! My name is Carson Craft and I’m a senior Corporate Communications major with a minor in Spanish. I went to Denia, Spain this summer because I wanted to immerse myself in the Spanish language and experience the culture firsthand in a safe environment. It was the best decision I’ve ever made and the biggest lesson I learned was not to take myself so seriously. Mistakes are inevitable and the learning curve is real when you’re learning a language, and being able to laugh at yourself makes it so much more fun!

Hello everyone! My name is Caroline Deason and I am a senior majoring in integrated studies. I went on the Baylor Business in Sydney trip last summer. I decided to go abroad because, I love to travel and have always wanted to live in a different country to experience the different cultures around the world and gain an experience of a lifetime. My biggest lesson that I learned while abroad was go abroad even if you don’t know anyone going or don’t have any friends going with you. Before I went abroad I did not know anyone that was going on my trip and I was extremely nervous that I was not going to enjoy my trip. However, I ended up meeting some of my best friends on my trip and making lifelong memories and friendships because of this trip and deciding to go even though I did not know anyone going. If you are looking to study abroad and find a place that you want to go but do not know anyone going don’t let that stop you from getting a once in a lifetime opportunity and meeting some of your best-friends because now I could not imagine what I would do without these people and the memories that we share together.

Hi my name is Brianna and I studied abroad in Prague over the Wintermester this year. I’m a Saxophone Performance Major at Baylor and I chose this specific program because it was easier to go abroad over the winter break as a music major while also still getting to experience Europe and learn about it’s musical culture. A lesson that I learned while I was abroad was that I have the ability to be very independent and I don’t have to be afraid to jump head first into a new country.

I went to the Baylor in Great Britain program for Summer 2023! I’m an English major with minors in linguistics and history, and I studied history while abroad. I chose to study abroad because I have always wanted to travel, and there will never be another point in my life where I’m able to just go live in England for five weeks.
The biggest lesson I learned was that the world is so much bigger than it feels when you’re growing up in your hometown. There is so much beauty and culture out there to be experienced, and I’m so glad I got the chance to see even a small part of it!

I chose to study abroad because I wanted to take advantage of the resources we are offered while in college and get to experience a new culture. Hello, my name is Lindsay Wilhelm. I studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain in the summer 2023 through the CEA program. I took a global communications class and completed an 8 week international internship. I am a double major in anthropology and international studies and a minor in forensic science. I studied abroad because I want to learn perspectives from other parts of the world and go outside my comfort zone. I had the opportunity to stay with a "host mom" during my stay which really put me outside of my comfort zone. She did not speak any English which provided a challenge but I valued to experience to learn and improve my Spanish. The biggest lesson I learned was actually from her. Spain has a very different unique approach to the work-life balance that I was hesitant to adjust to at first. However, in speaking with her and learning about her life, she encouraged me to relax. While still taking my class and doing my internship she taught me to start doing more little things for myself that were fun and exciting and it really enhanced my experience abroad. It is one thing that I want to continue more of in my life: taking the time to do stuff for me.
