I'm Accepted...What's Next?
Congratulations on your decision to study abroad through Baylor University! Studying abroad is a life-changing experience and you are sure to have the time of your life while abroad. The experience of living abroad for several months in a foreign country, as opposed to that of being a tourist, will be of tremendous value to you from every point of view. You will grow culturally, linguistically, personally, intellectually, and spiritually. You will have the chance to go beyond sightseeing and become acquainted with another country and cultures.
How to Commit
Students must decide to commit or decline their approval by the deadline stated in their email correspondence. Students applying to participate in a Baylor Faculty Program commit by paying the required deposit. Students must be accepted by their host university or affiliate provider in order to participate in their program. Approval by Baylor is not a guarantee of admittance by the host program. For questions about this, please contact your Program Director.

Country Information Meeting - Optional
All study abroad participants are encouraged to attend an Optional Country Information Meeting to learn more about the location you will be living in for the summer, winter, or semester and meet others that will also be studying at the same location as you. In this meeting we will discuss everything from culture and currency to etiquette and education. You will be informed of the meeting time and location in the week after your nomination or acceptance into a program.
Pre-Departure Orientation - Mandatory
All students studying abroad through Baylor are required to complete an orientation process that covers a variety of topics intended to prepare you for your time abroad. Students are required to attend an in-person orientation during the study day (days leading up to final exams) one semester before departure. Example: If you are going abroad in Spring 2024 then you would attend Pre-Departure Orientation in Fall 2023 during the study day. Please review our tips.
Thinking Ahead - Subletting, On-Campus Housing, and Accommodations Abroad
-
Subletting: Baylor University does not facilitate sub-letting arrangements between students. While the Center for Global Engagement cannot send out emails to students for subleasing, we recommend exploring other platforms or resources that specialize in connecting students for such purposes. Baylor has provided a site to assist you with this process; however, these are not owned and operated by Baylor and the university is not responsible for any issues or problems that arise at these locations. This list is only a courtesy, it is not endorsed by or affiliated with Baylor University or the Center for Global Engagement. Baylor University Rooms For Rent Finder (baylorareahousing.com). We wish you the best of luck in finding suitable sublessees for your apartment.
-

Back at Baylor
- Transcripts: It is YOUR responsibility to have your transcript from your host university mailed back to Baylor. Some universities will do this for you, but you still need to check with the transcript office to see if they automatically send it or if you need to fill out a transcript request form. IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who participate in a study abroad not taught by Baylor faculty or in a Baylor Partner Program their final semester at Baylor should not expect to graduate at the end of that term because differences in academic calendars between Baylor and foreign universities make it very unlikely that official transcripts with final grades will reach Baylor in time for graduation certification. For more detailed information, the student should contact the appropriate degree plans office.
